Google says the feature will allow the searchers to choose the right search results in the correct way.

Google instant preview provides a graphic overview in the search result and shows the more relevant sections of the page or website instantly similar to a magzine. This Google instant preview feature is a mouse over function which is seen when you point to the magnifying glass next to the search result and a visual page appears to the right. This is something similar to what Bing has already introduced but the Google view is expected to have more relevancy and added features.

Google is introducing the new features to improve search and this no doubt is the feature focussed to help faster search after the recently introduced Google instant feature. The Google instant preview can load the preview in one-tenth of a second as compared to the current average worldwide webpage load time of 4-5 seconds. The feature will be available in 40 languages in next fews days according to Google.

For more information visit Google Instant Preview

Google Instant - Impact on Search Queries

Google instant - Impact
Google instant is a new seach technologly introduced by the Search Giant Google. With this new introduction the page updates results dynamically to show the top results even if the user is half way typing the word.

This is basically to improve the rate or speed of search. So far you would have experienced that if you type a word in Google Search Bar a drop down appeared with search query suggestions but the difference was that no ads were displayed till the user completes or decides on a search term and hit enter button. In continuation to its search engine domination, Google is also trying to match the speed of search and help users to find the right ads in less time.

No one knows the impact of this on PPC / SEO / SMM or the Affiliate Marketing but many experts have already started to put there views. Google, as always states that they are only planning to enhance the user experience but no one knows. Working with the new Google instant for sometime will give more ideas and expert analysis available for everyone.

Google explains on their Official Blog that the increase in impressions would be seen because the websites may keep on appearing on the page as the user starts typing and would be counted as impressions.

Impressions would be measured in 3 ways as per the Google Official Blog information.

1) Your site is displayed in search results as a response to a user’s completed query (e.g. by pressing “enter” or selecting a term from autocomplete). This is the traditional model.

2) With Google Instant, we also measure impressions in these new cases:

3) The user begins to type a term on Google and clicks on a link on the page, such as a search result, ad, or a related search.

The user stops typing, and the results are displayed for a minimum of 3 seconds.
The introduction of Google Instant is only to help the user for getting faster results.

Major Impact - Possibility of Unnecessary Impressions with Google Instant

I think that there is a possibility having unnecessary impressions to the account .Check below screenshot. If a user wants a to buy a medical insurance (the query “buy insurance medical” has 2900 global searches every month) and starts typing as per the 1st example in the screen shot below the GoCompare ad triggers continuously till we complete typing the word buy insurance.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 106px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_kaQCw9fHF1E/TIoHmj0QG_I/AAAAAAAAADs/2U7X-PdXxEI/s200/hhh.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5515229052699417586" />

Now if GoCompare doesn’t sell Medical insurance and have “Medical” as Negative in the ad words campaign it of no use till the last word Medical is typed. This is 1 example, could be many more search query variations which have the same issue. Now these impressions for Medical search query are unnecessary I feel for the GoCompare PPC Campaign. Google Instant is presuming that the query could be for a car, home or other insurance and forcibly triggering ads. The CPM model will give good income to Google.
-

Google Updates Quality Score, Criteria for Paid Search Listings - MarketingVOX

Google Updates Quality Score, Criteria for Paid Search Listings - MarketingVOX

Crawling and Indexing

Using RSS/Atom feeds to discover new URLs

Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 5:50 PM
Webmaster Level: Intermediate

Google uses numerous sources to find new webpages, from links we find on the web to submitted URLs. We aim to discover new pages quickly so that users can find new content in Google search results soon after they go live. We recently launched a feature that uses RSS and Atom feeds for the discovery of new webpages.

RSS/Atom feeds have been very popular in recent years as a mechanism for content publication. They allow readers to check for new content from publishers. Using feeds for discovery allows us to get these new pages into our index more quickly than traditional crawling methods. We may use many potential sources to access updates from feeds including Reader, notification services, or direct crawls of feeds. Going forward, we might also explore mechanisms such as PubSubHubbub to identify updated items.

In order for us to use your RSS/Atom feeds for discovery, it's important that crawling these files is not disallowed by your robots.txt. To find out if Googlebot can crawl your feeds and find your pages as fast as possible, test your feed URLs with the robots.txt tester in Google Webmaster Tools.

Written by Raymond Lo, Guhan Viswanathan, and Dave Weissman, Crawl and Indexing Team

Labels: crawling and indexing

Google Page Rank Factors

It’s true that that Google Page Rank is depended more on the back links (Votes) but there are many other factors that Google considers to assign a PR to the Website.

Wikipedia

Google assigns a numeric weighting from 0-10 for each web page on the Internet; this Page Rank denotes a site’s importance in the eyes of Google. Check the words high lighted in the above text.

Do you think Google considers only back links to assign a PR ?

I have been doing this research for a long time and have discovered few thnigs from the overall analysis and tests I performed.

It’s true that Google Page Rank is depended on the back links but there are many other factors that Google would consider before assigning a PR to the Website.

Factors Related to websites from where your website gets a link

Website Trust
This is an important factor that Google would consider. Links from trusted websites like Amazon, New York times (nytimes) etc would definitely get bonus points.

Website type (.org,.gov,.edu)
Google would also add some bonus points for sites with .org,.gov,.edu
The domain gives a trust that the website would have important information and that most of the policies are adhered. It also gives Google a confidence that they would not have any content violation.

Website PR
The website PR is definitely a important factor as it passes some of its value to our website to help our website's PR.

Website Outbound Links
The number of outbound links on a website are important as they pay major role PR distribution. A website with 4 PR and 10 outbound links is always good to have as a back link instead of having a website with 6 PR and 100 outbound links. The PR value of the website passes equal value to all the outbound links on the website.

Factors Related to your Website

Number of Back links
Number of back links had a great value in the past but Google changed the algorithms for many reasons. But still they have a considerable weightage in helping the PR value.

Number of Visitors
Very few know but Google also considers the number of visitors to a website as a part of its PR calculation. It holds some weight age and can definitely help in raising the PR value.

Domain Registration Length
Google also takes into consideration the length of domain registration while assigning a PR. Websites registered for a longer duration are given bonus points. Its not that websites with lesser duration aren’t considered but you know it always a race to find the best if 2 are similar.

Website Last Update
If you have observed Article websites / Directory websites get quick PR and also most of them would have a good PR. The reason is Google likes websites that are regularly updated with new and fresh content. So adding a RSS feed also helps to add new content everyday and thus promotes your website for having new content each day. It is important that the RSS content matches your website content.

Website Content
Try and keep unique content on the website. Google likes!! Your websites Anchor text / Title text and / Keyword density are few things that you need to look at for marketing your content for relevant traffic. It’s also important that search engines know that your website has a unique content.

Website Design / Coding
Website Design and coding language also helps improve the PR. These things of a website are told to Google PR deciding scripts by the crawlers to include there thought about the website and thus add their department’s weight age points to add to the total.

Page Loading Time
It depends on all the technical aspects of the web design, No of images / size, No of Objects / size and many other factors. Google considers this as it directly relates to user's satisfaction on the website search results provided by the Google Search Engine.

Best PPC & SEO Books

PPC and SEO are no doubt the most powerful concepts used in the Search Engine Marketing industry. Using right Keywords is a very important aspect and holds major share in your account performance. At the same time when you use keywords its important you use the right negatives to support them.
One fine day a man asked God for a son. This guy was very desperate and could not wait any long. He prayed god and said that " I need a Son and if you give me that then I will give you 10 grams of gold". God listened to his prayer and gave him a son, but blind. The man was very disappointed and asked god that why did he do that.. God said you asked me for a son but did not mention that he should be able to see. You did not tell me that he should have legs to walk but still I gave you the son with legs.!! You need to understand from this that its important that you should first look at what you need and not assume all comes default. If you find keywords for your PPC campaign include right negatives to help the search engine understand what you dont need and set a correct expectation as in what is exactly needed out of that. What kind of traffic should you drive to the website. Search Engine is GOD of PPC advertising model so ask the god for what you need in a smart way. You can get close to everything you need but you need to have that attitude, patience & trust. Your prayer request will landup in the top list (top rank) if you know how to put it smartly. Everything on this earth is closely related to human life because this is created by human thoughts.

SEO & Human Life

My last blog compared PPC with Human life. Now in the similar sense thought SEO also works. SEO is Search Engine Optimisation. These are the Organic or Natural ad listing offered by search engines & the advertiser is not charged for any clicks they receive. Relevancy is common in both PPC & SEO. SEO practice needs a lot of link buliding to your website to rank high on the Search Engines. In thousands of people its important that few people know you so that they keep on marketing you portfolio with there friends / Companies etc. Its not just marketing but anything that they could tell there friends about you. May be something like " you know, he is my friend and knows a lot about internet". For instance this statement might help you get a job. Similarly we need to have other web links to tell the search engines that your website is good for them to rank. The kind of friend and his contacts are also important to frame your qualities in general. A friend of yours might have good contacts and his words could help you in the society in many ways. Similarly a bad friend might create a bad image of you in the market and work out to be bad for you in the society. SEO links work exactly the same way if you have good strong links they would help you a lot to gain higher rank but at the same time some bad links might take your website way down. Keywords can be generated using multiple keywords generation tools but assigning the right match type is very important. A account should be well balanced by all type's of keywords. Broad, Phrase, Exact, Seasonal, longtail, generic, location based, specific etc. Negative keywords play a very important role in improving overall account quality score by reducing the irrelvant impressions and improving the CTR. Its not important to have huge keyword list but a quality product specific manageable keyword list is something that works well.

Google Adtext / Adcopy Generation Tips

Adtext / Adcopy / Ad copies / Ads / Google Ads / Creative writing / Adcopy Generation
Most of the SEM concept runs around relevancy. Its important that we focus on improving relevancy which in turn improves quality score.
Its a very complex fact about PPC that people seem to react differently depending upon the individual ad and market. This makes a PPC Expert few things unpredictable and thus its important we test multiple adtext copies to see what works best for us.
Using a DKI(Dynamic Keyword Insertion) is a good option at times but we need to be very careful while using the same. If used incorrectly might change your ads look drastically irrelevant.
- Include most of the content from the Client Website to improve relvancy & Quality Score- Use call to action- First line benefit, try and include theme keyword of the adgroup- Call to action. E.g. "Buy Today - Save 30%".- Use "power" words like "amazing", "first time", "forever" etc.- Try to be different. Try anything eye catching- Check if the keywords in the adtext are present in the landing page to which it is linked- Study compitetor adtext and decide if we need to include any offers / product price etc (because if we have high price for certain product compared to the compitetor its not worth mentioning in that ad text)

PPC Marketing & Human Life !

PPC Marketing is very similar to a human life. The only difference is that a PPC Campaign is managed by human for humans whereas a human life is managed by himself.
It is a fact and the basic thumb rule for any spend PPC Account that the target budget needs to be spent evenly throughout the month. Its not worth spending high or low in the week or last week or in between. Similarly its not worth enjoying with all your money in one day. If you expect to live for 75 years than its good to plan accordingly and spend and enjoy equally and evenly. If you think of enjoying you youth with no plans in mind about your old age you might get into a huge trouble. Similarly if you save everything for the old age and later realise few things could have done before is not worth. Save and Spend your money at right time and on right thing. This would help you manage both your real life and PPC Campaigns well.
Its good to spend on right keywords similarly good to spend money on things which are really nessesary for you. Distrubute you time with priorities similarly the way you allocate the daily budgets to your PPC Campaign. Allot little time to contact your friends and relatives for long term benefits similar to the longtail keywords you have in the account.
You need to focus more on your own qualities to be sucessful, the way you bid on high converting keywords in PPC. Try to correct on your poor qualities the way you try to improve the quality score of a keyword. You would see many similarities if you start thinking on this lines !
